HIKING ROUTE: RUTA DEL FERRO

The Ruta del Ferro is a walk of little more than 4Km through the history of Andorra’s metallurgy industry. It drops 100m and is done in roughly an hour.

The Ruta del Ferro d’Andorra is a cultural route that forms part of the Iron Route of the Pyrenees (Catalonia, Aquitaine, Arriège, Guipúzkoa and Biscay). In the Andorran part, the route invites us to discover the resources of the metallurgical industry through the production stages of this metal and its use (obtention, transformation and commercialisation). It is an ideal route for families and those who want to know something more about the economic activity of the principality from the early 17th to the late 19th century.

Along the route we will find coal works, forges... and examples of the mining and steel works activity. The route is complemented with a visit to the Farga Rossell forge – Iron Interpretation Centre, the Llorts Mine, the Route of the Arrieros, Sant Martí de la Cortinada, the Casa d'Areny-Plandolit Museum and the Iron Men route. The Iron Route can also be done on horseback from Ransol to Arans, passing the els Meners mine.
